The designer

Designers who can research, draw and present are rarer than they should be

I am a UX/UI and visual designer with over seven years designing digital products, interaction flows and visual systems — in a corporate design lead role, inside agencies, and independently.

My particular strength is translating complex, technical systems into user-centred experiences. Most of my corporate work has been in the ICT and transport sector, where the products are genuinely complicated and the people using them are not there to admire the interface.

That has shaped how I work: understand the system properly, find the one thing the user is actually trying to do, and clear everything else out of the way. I work remotely with cross-functional teams — business analysts, developers, stakeholders — and I am used to delivering consistently under tight and shifting timelines.

In the corporate role I designed and prototyped digital interfaces, workflows and visual systems for ICT and transport products, translated business and technical requirements into user journeys, and defined UI and brand guidelines to keep products, proposals and marketing assets consistent. I contributed to securing a multi-million-rand contract through UX-led storytelling, prototypes and visual communication.

Independently I have worked across UX/UI, e-commerce, identity and print — 9 West on 57th, Zelli Handbags, Reboute and Vasinova — alongside brand and campaign work touching Honda, Converse, Nestlé, Mercedes-Benz and Huawei.

The degree matters here. BTech: Multimedia Studies (Interaction Design) from the University of Johannesburg is a formal interaction design grounding — typography, information design and interaction theory alongside the software — rather than a bootcamp conversion.
